The Montauk Extension Railroad was built by Frank Benson, and extended from Amagansett to Fort Pond Bay in Montauk. A deep water port at Fort Pond Bay, where trans-Atlantic passengers could disembark and travel into New York at sixty miles per hour, was planned, but this never came to fruition. The line was incorporated May 25, 1893 and opened in 1895.
